Quick Fix Music Moment Part 8
Posted by Boy Wonder
This song went to #90 in the U.S. in 1980 while not charting at all in the U.K. Naturally, it was a top ten hit in Australia, the adopted home for this international super group. I used to listen to this song with my mother and I think she was a little embarrassed by the lyrics. Meanwhile, I was all eleven years old thinking how hot is was that this chick was “working” the party!

God, ABBA sure did have embarrassing lyrics. They did some great songs but sometimes it’s like listening to soap opera or a Cosmopolitan article put to music.
Oh, come on! “I said I was not exactly waiting for a bus”? HiLARious!
OK, that one’s funny. But not as much as this glimpse of “The Day Before You Came”:
“…I must have opened my front door at 8 o’clock or so
And stopped along the way to buy some chinese food to go
I’m sure I had my dinner watching something on TV
There’s not, I think, a single episode of Dallas that I didn’t see
I must have gone to bed around a quarter after ten
I need a lot of sleep and so I like to be in bed by then
I must have read a while,
The latest one by Marilyn French or something in that style…”
And on and on and on…
That song does go on forever, but at least it does show a gleaming light of hope in the otherwise dreary existence of millions of mediocre people the world over. Sometimes love shows up just when you were about to put your head in the oven.
“Sometimes - there’s God - so quickly!”
