Simple Pleasures

Posted by Johnny

The shoot went really well, considering we had dialogue with 5 sets of actors. We all managed to get out by sundown. I drove straight to PS. The thought of sleeping in my own bed was the driving force. I was plum tuckered out and had not seen my sheets for about 10 days now.

My old, dear friend Mara has recently joined the Hazzard Ahead collective. Sorry, I meant to bring that up before she made an entry. I am trying to get François to post something, that will be very nice of him. I hope he gets around to it soon - it was his idea after all.

(DID YOU READ THAT FRANÇOIS? WRITE!!!)

Mara and I go waaaaay back to high school years. I pretty much skipped my Senior year and hung out in the back seat of her Buick while she and our crew were actually attending class. As soon as 3:30 hit though, I returned to Solon High School to pick her up and start whatever trouble I was craving. Usually the evening went to about 2 mins before 1st period started. Hot. Thankfully we grew out of that.

For the first five years after high school somebody from my class died. It was really awful. Two of them were like blood to me. I had known them since the 7th grade. We used to ride our mopeds around town and sneak my Dad’s beer in the basement - after we had parked the hogs for the evening of course. We could never really do very much damage since Jimmy and Cornell had to be home before 8. They were special guys to me and I have no idea why I chose this minute to bring them up.

This time next week I will be packing up Milo for our trip to Boston. I am going with my friend Sarah, who shares my place with me in Provincetown. For something like that good company and music is paramount. We have done this before together last year and now know the quirks. For instance, Sarah has an intense need for Starbucks. I cannot tell you how many times we trudged around the highways looking for that blasted green sign! Sometimes we got it, sometimes we didn’t. I didn’t enjoy those mornings in the middle of the country with no Starbucks in sight (imagine?!) leaving Sarah detoxing and cranky. Those were the mornings that began for me with a joint. This time will be different though. The plan is this. We are going to bring a cooler like they have at baseball games, the ones with the little spicket at the bottom. At first encounter of a Starbucks we are buying enough Venti, percent, light ice lattes and filling the cooler. I will have my beans and my Frenchpress. Other than the coffee issue, we do really well. We alternate music with books on CD and quiet time. We took our sweet ass time and made it in 9 days. This time things are a tad more regimented. We have to leave SF on the 29th and must be in Cleveland on May 6, latest. Sarah is going to leave for Boston from there and Mom will keep me company on the drive to Beantown. Luckily, all Ma Hazzard needs to start her day is a tin of those International Coffee powder things to make her happy. Ah, the simple pleasures.
